Elche Last Minute Drama
Elche had to leave mainland Spain to fly to their rivals this week in Mallorca. A number of Elche fans took advantage of the great value flights and went to support the Franjiverdes in the aptly named 'Visit Mallorca Stadium' which was just over 50% full for the fixture.
Escriba has been constantly changing his starting line up. Unfortunately it seems that he is yet to discover the magic combination to gain points. For the first time this season, and much to the delight of the fans, Edgar Badia started in goal, although Guti was missing due to his red card against Real Madrid. Also missing from the pitch was the manager of Mallorca, Luis Garcia who was serving the first of his two match ban and was following the action in isolation from the stands.
The first half was extremely pedestrian with neither side shining. Badia proved his worth in the 6th minute stopping an almost point blank ball from Angel. Both sides continued with goal opportunities, none of which they converted and the first half finished 0-0
The action began on the 68th minute with a goal from Elche CF. Russo carelessly lost the ball to Lucas Boye who turned and powered forward 20 meters towards the goal before releasing his shot and putting his side ahead. The lead was short lived, in fact it only existed for 4 minutes. Josema fouled Maffeo in front of goal and Salva Sevilla converted the penalty. The draw was even shorter lived, and just 3 minutes later Elche were in the lead once again. Mojica sent an amazing cross into a stretching Boye, whose foot extended just far enough to redirect the ball across the line. The game continued at a fast pace and 6 minutes extra time was added. Elche were seconds from celebrating when in the last action of the game Mallorca won a corner. Badia spied a dangerous unmarked Palmesanos Maffeo and ran towards him, but didn't make the punch in time. The 173cm Pablo Maffeo jumped high to head the ball into the open goal.
With the draw Elche plummeted from 15th to 18th position and stay in the relegation zone until the next game on the 21st November at home against Real Betis. The coach and match ticket package are ready for booking on www.eurotourguide.com
