Los Alcazares Fiesta de la Huerta y el Mar
The 51st International Fiesta of the Countryside and Sea will take place in Los Alcazares from the 14th to the 24th August 2023. This fiesta has been declared as being of Regional Tourist Interest and is well worth enjoying. It is officially known as the LI Semana Internacional de la Huerta y el Mar and is primarily a folklore festival which has grown over the years to incorporate many traditional aspects. The festival celebrates the annual migration of the countryside workers to the sea for the hot summer months, hence the combination of the 'Huerto' y 'Mar'.
The little 'ventorrillos' or 'barraca huertanas' will be built in the same location as the Tuesday market in Calle de los Catalanes. The ventorrilas are temporary buildings, similar to the ones that the original countryside workers would have built to stay in during their seaside holiday! Each barraca belongs to a different pena or association. They will be open to visitors every evening from 20:30 to 00:30 between the 12th and 24th August and will be offering a fantastic selection of traditional local food and tapas.
