The village of San Miguel de Salinas sits on a 100 m high hill above the pink Laguna de Torrevieja, and offers impressive views over the countryside to this working lake with its salt piles. Because of this it is often referred to as the Balcony of the Costa Blanca.
This typical inland village owes its location to the original troglodytes or cave dwellers. The Las Cuevas park with the cave houses is located at the top of the hill and is well worth a visit. Take a walk around over the roofs and past the chimneys of these amazing dwellings.
There is a traditional church square behind which the tourist office is situated, a main high street with the town hall and many bars, cafes and restaurants offering a good choice of international cuisine. There are the occasional performances at the band stand, a municipal open air swimming pool for use during the summer and the Wednesday morning street market is always busy. The popular Lawn Bowls Club of San Miguel is located to the south of the town, close to Villamartin part of the Orihuela Costa.
Included within the limits of San Miguel de Salinas is the hamlet of Rebate with its pretty little church. The twisting CV952 road to Rebate with its picturesque church offers some stunning scenery, and forms part of the driving route around the La Pedrera Reservoir Guide.
