Torrevieja Habaneras Song Competition
The week long International Habaneras Competition in Torrevieja starts on Monday 24th July and continues until Sunday 30th July 2023. It is one of the most popular cultural events within Torrevieja. The first competition was held in 1955 and there has been one every year since then. The Habanera is a specific type of music that originated from Cuba in the 19th century. It was the first written music to be rhythmically based on an African motif, and the first dance music from Cuba to be exported all over the world.
Every evening there is a performance on the Eras de la Sal, the promenade just to the south of the Club Natico, leading off the Paseo Vista Alegre where the day and night market is located. This year there are 13 choirs participating, 3 of which are Spanish and the other 10 are from Ecuador, Chile, Uruguay, Venezuelan. Lithuania, Colombia, Poland and the Philippines.

- Monday 24th July Opening Gala with Cantante española Pasión Vega and the Coro Sinfonía de la Escuela Coral Municipal.
- Tuesday 25th July Concert Recreation of the Musical El Regalo plus Competition Performances from Coro Pichincha (Quito, Ecuador) y Coro de la Universidad Católica de Temuco (Temuco, Chile).
- Wednesday 26th July -Competition Performances from Conjunto de Madrigalistas Universidad de Playa Ancha (Valparaíso, Chile); Ensamble Oikos (Montevideo, Uruguay); Coro Polifónico Adelis Freitez (Estado Lara, Venezuela).
- Thursday 27th July Competition Performances from Kaunas Kamertonas Mixed Choir (Kaunas, Lithuania); Ensamble Vocal Macondo (Medellín, Colombia); Concordia Choir (Warsaw, Poland); Coro de Cámara de Copiapó (Copiapó, Chile).
- Friday 28th July Competition Performances from Coro de Cámara Extremadura (Badajoz, Spain); Nubah (Granada, Spain); Coro Joven Las Veredas (Colmenarejo, Madrid, Spain); Kammerchor Manila (Manila, Philippines).
- Saturday 29th July Grand Gala Internacional Choir Exhibition and Prize Ceremony with participation from all groups.
- Sunday 30th July Local Choir Performances Coro y Orquesta Maestro Ricardo Lafuente, Masa Coral José Hódar, Agrupación Coral Manuel Barberá, Orfeón de Torrevieja, Coral Torrevejense Francisco Vallejos y Coro Maestro Casanovas.
